St Anne's Church

Consecrated in 1689 when Soho was at the height of fashion, Saint Anne's has led a turbulant life.

In its early days in the 17th Century, Frederick, Prince of Wales had his pew there having 'discovered an inclination' to come to the church and even after society moved away the church remained the focus of cosmopolitan population who moved here.

The original tower became unstable in the 1800s and was demolished.  Samuel Pepys Cockerell was commissioned to design the current replacement, which is now grade II listed.

On 24 September 1940, the church was entirely burnt out during the blitz.  The tower was left standing, but in a derelict state, until the 1990s when it was restored as part of the modern church.

Today the church enjoys its position in the vibrant modern community of Soho and in 2012, the Community Hall becomes the centre of the youth rapper world as DERTy pays a visit for this year's competition.
