DERTy Rules
In 2005 a team from Maltby school not only won the open class, but achieved higher marks than the winners of the Premier taking home the Steve Marris trophy. Can the Maltby Pheonix Fledglings have as much success in the Youth Competition in 2012?(Photo courtesy of DERT 2011)
- All competing teams must have their own public liability insurance and be accompanied by a responsible adult.
- Teams will be judged on a single performance. Details of each competing team's dance time will be published prior to the event.
- Junior team dancers should be 12 years or under
- Youth team dancers should be 18 years or under
- Up to 1 member of each team may be slightly older than this.
- Dances will last no more than 6 minutes, including the calling on song.
- Characters must be under 19 and can perform for different teams provided a different calling on song is used.
- Teams will not be penalized if they do not have a Tommy/Betty or calling on song, but are encouraged to have one.
- Teams must perform to live music. Any teams unable to provide this must let the organisers know at the time of entry, so some can be arranged.
- Any teams missing their allocated spots will forfeit their entry.
- Dancers may only compete in one team in the youth competition.
- Any side entering more than one team must enter them as separate teams in the competition.
-
Teams will be marked on the following criteria, each of which carry equal marks
- Sword Handling - Do the swords move well?
- Figures - Are the figures performed well?
- Style - Is there a visible positive style?
- Stepping together - Do they dance with the music and each other?
- Team work - Are they all together?
- The judges' decisions are absolutely final.
Please note that these rules are subject to change in the run up to the competition itself.
